Protecting Leeds from Flooding05/12/17

Flooding in Leeds city centre is no new thing, the frequency of such events now appears to be increasing. Up to November 2014 there had been 4 near misses since the Millennium. Then came the autumn and winter of 2015, like most of northern England the catchment of the river Aire was affected by extreme levels of rainfall which culminated in the city being hit by three significant events in just 6 weeks. The scheme to provide protection for Leeds was underway and areas of work that were completed provided protection. The presentation shows how the project will provide protection for similar events and the steps that are being made to accelerate the next phase of works.
