The proportion of women working in the construction industry has remained stagnant at 13% for the last two decades.

Whilst we are recruiting women across all areas of the industry, retaining them, their skills and their potential seems to be one of the greatest challenges.

We need men and women from across the industry to join us for an interactive morning where you will hear from people driving change in their organisations, the industry and their own careers.

Delegates will learn how they can initiate and support change in their organisations, meet other people with similar aspirations and understand how they can turn obstacles into advantages to further their own professional development.

Speakers include;

  • Frank Clayton, Group Head of Learning – NG Bailey
  • Chrissi McCarthy, Founder/Managing Director – The Duck Project, Constructing Equality

Panel Discussions;

  • Women in … the North East – Regional networks of women working in construction, what they offer and their plans for the future.
  • Still Going Strong – Women from the region speak of their time in construction, how they celebrated their difference, overcame challenges and grew their careers.

Our annual International Women’s Day conference continues to grow, year on year.

Feedback from Balance for Better, 2019.

‘Extremely inspiring morning’

‘Excellent event and speakers’

‘I will bring my colleagues next year’

Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Developing a one voice strategy for the North East England Construction Sector, to secure support and funding for a sustainable industry.

The Construction Industry accounts for 8.5% of all jobs in the North East, with a projected construction spend of over £3 billion per year for the next five years. Our industry is seen as an international leader in digital services, construction development and building information modelling (BIM) and it’s envisaged that 4,200 new construction jobs will be created in the North East by 2022.

But if we want a vibrant, dynamic and sustainable construction sector that will play a part in the development, growth and economic success of the future of North East England, then we must focus on skills, building a sustainable industry, productivity and innovation.

Come along to the consultation event and tell us what’s going on in the industry and what you think we need to do to make a difference.
