The lecture will examine soil-structure interaction under catastrophic collapse, wave loading, high speed trains and dense urban seismic loading using examples drawn from real-world installations. It will show how economy in design can be driven using unified soil-structure interaction modelling through advanced numerical analysis in which rate effects are explicitly considered. Recent improvements in the visualisation of foundation behaviour under extreme events enables us to articulate more effectively extreme event scenarios across disciplines and project stakeholders.

With its 105m-tall white central pylon, it is the first bridge to be built cross the River Wear in the city for more than 40 years.

The aim of the improvements to the existing A19/A1058 Coast Road junction, is to support opportunities and economic growth in the North East. The £75m Highway England scheme involves the upgrade of the existing roundabout to an ambitious three-level interchange.

The presentation will focus on the current construction of the large diameter bored piles being installed at the A19 site to facilitate the triple decker roundabout to ease congestion at this junction.
