The Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation, North East & Cumbria Region, alongside the Transport Planning Society, are pleased to announce the “An Introduction To…” seminar series.
As one of the leading centres of transport technology in Europe, the Transport Operations Research Group (TORG) have been central to key research in areas such as road user charging and smartcards.
In addition to running a world-leading trial in electric vehicles and public charging infrastructure in the North East they have also developed low-cost wireless sensing technology called Motes. This is being deployed commercially by several local authorities to monitor traffic pollution, manage the traffic demand and reduce emissions.
Dr Neil Thorpe has worked within TORG since 1989 and has contributed to numerous papers, including road safety research and training workshops both nationally and abroad. He will cover the basics of Academic Research, including how to become involved in the field, to choose a topic and where to start. He’ll also give a brief overview of the studies currently underway at the University, and recent successes.
