The construction sector and built environment faces a huge skills shortage. Companies are constantly looking to retain existing staff and attract new, skilled talent, to join them. While the issue of introducing new people into the sector is critically important, many companies need to recruit NOW!

HR and recruitment specialist, Randstad and marketing, branding and communications expert, Bradley O’Mahoney, operate extensively in construction and the built environment and are collaborating on a series of workshops over the course of 2025. They will address the huge skills gap in the construction sector and how employer branding and more meaningful insights into the recruitment process are crucial when it comes to attracting and retaining a skilled workforce.

In the first workshop they addressed how to stand out as an employer of choice to ensure a potential recruit picks your firm and not another.

This workshop, Empowering Retention: Cultivating a Thriving Workforce takes place 3rd September at Evolve Centre from 8.30am – 11am.

Workshop Objectives:

● Understand the significant financial impact of employee turnover

● Key drivers of employee motivation, buy-in and purpose

● Develop strategies for fostering trust and effective communication

● Address employee challenges and align individual goals with organisational objectives

● Empower employees to “control their narrative” and contribute to a positive work environment

● Articulate and strengthen employer branding

● Define and work towards becoming an “employer of choice.”

Redcar Central Station Project and the Redcar Town Deal – High Street Transformation Works site visit

Your invited to visit Redcar Town to see some of the biggest council led town regeneration projects in the Northeast and speak to the contractor and other individuals involved.

Redcar Central Station Project– Redcar Central Station Project- The Grade II listed former station building had stood derelict for many years prior to the Council taking over the lease and with funding from UK Government and the Railway Heritage Trust are embarking on a major conservation/ restoration project to repair and safeguard its future. The project is complex with the operational rail line 1m from the engine shed wall so requires specialist designers and contractors as well as close working with Network Rail, conservation officers and planning . The works will create a new commercial leisure and retail space at a key gateway into Redcar Town, with completion due later this year.

PFAS are a class of synthetic chemicals used since the 1940s that are fast becoming an issue on many development sites – particularly brownfield – across the UK.

These ‘forever chemicals’ are a major concern due to their serious risk to human health.

For construction and demolition companies, they are an additional contaminant to deal with as they fall within the scope of the EA’s environmental permitting regime.

While PFAS creates risk to construction projects, there are ways to mitigate against them. This workshop will cover…

  • What are PFAS and what risks do they pose to construction, demolition and development ?
  • Introduction to the PFAS Risk Assessment Database to rapidly screen sites for PFAS risk.
  • How do construction companies manage/mitigate the risks?
  • Can PFAS remediation unlock problem sites? Case studies from two live projects.

Delivered by Duncan Sanders, who is the PFAS lead within ATG Group along with a ‘PFAS Geological Expert’.

They will help you gain a clearer understanding of the nature of the problem and what options are available to you if PFAS are discovered on your sites.
