ICES Northern Counties Derwent Reservoir and Dam Site/Technical Visit

Northumbrian Water Ltd will be hosts for what will be an interesting visit in the 50th anniversary of the construction of this unique dam.

The visit will commence at Derwent Reservoir DH8 9TU at 9.30am for a site tour which will be lead by Kevin Miller the supervising (panel) engineer for this dam and will involve a valve tower and tunnel access walk through, opening of a 48 inch needle scour valve into the spillway with visits to dam seepage flow control points and piezometer locations.

Mark Mande (Project Electrical Engineer) will provide an overview on recent modifications to the Derwent Hydro Generator –“Turbine inlet and compensation actuator control”. This will round off what will be a good Civil Mechanical and Electrical insight into this structure.

Following this a free buffet lunch will be provided at the nearby Mosswood Water Treatment facility DH8 9BD and a film show taken during the construction will follow with a 30min question/answers session when questions can be made to Kevin Miller regarding any aspect of the dams construction and operational matters.

Numbers are limited to 15 so please book early.
